Kep City Awarded for Cleanliness ahead of Major Development Plans

KEP: Prime Minister Hun Manet congratulated the city of Kep for receiving the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Award at the 4th ASEAN Tourism Forum in Laos on January 26, 2024 .

The ASEAN Tourism Forum 2024 was organized under the theme "Quality and Responsible ASEAN - Sustaining ASEAN Future" with leaders from the Ministries of Tourism for all ASEAN member countries attending in addition to representatives from China, Japan, South Korea, India, and other organizations.

This is the third Clean City award for Kep, which also received the ASEAN Environmental Sustainability Award and the Certificate of Clean Land, Clean Water and Clean Air.

Kep is the smallest of all provincial capitals in Cambodia. The Cambodian government is implementing the Kep Tourism Development Master Plan 2023-2035 to turn the small oceanfront city into a high-end resort to attract investors and tourists.

According to the master plan, the old Kep city will be transformed into a world-class luxury park with the Angkol area becoming a modern natural beach resort, the Phnom Vorl district an agro- and eco-tourism destination, and the nearby islands becoming luxury resorts.

Recreation and tourist sites to be developed in the master plan include the Kep Crab Market, Por Heng Dam, Kep National Park, Mangrove forests, public beaches, salt fields, mountainous areas, pepper and durain plantations, islands, public parks and public green landscapes.
